Showtime with Dexter

Dexter is the most unlikely ‘hero.’ His fascinating oddity draws us into him in the most a obscure and unexpected way. He epitomizes the very dark and twisted character in all of us (and secretly perhaps our desire to be like him!).
Dexter plays the role of a serial killer that was created when his mother was violently murdered in front of him. A benevolent policeman adopts him after the incident and raises him as his own. The policeman recognizes Dexter’s tendencies to be just a tad more violent and detached than most, and knows what he will become. So, rather than suppress what he sees as the inevitable, he teaches Dexter to take out his aggressions on those that deserve it, criminals and murderers.
Each show usually has a theme of a single bad guy that Dexter must stop “dead” in his tracks. Usually it plays out within the show, but sometimes it can cross over, or even skip a week to focus on the main theme of that year’s series. The main theme in the first season was a murderer nick-named the “Ice Truck Killer” that torments Dexter and leads him to an amazing realization and show finale.
The second season leads Dexter to clues and memories of his past. A policeman on the force thinks Dex is up to no good, and decides to tail him incessantly. In an attempt to placate his girlfriend about a non-existant heroine habit (which is really the desire to kill) Dexter goes to an AA meeting. This leads to his meeting up with a British woman that identifies with Dexter and also has a tendency towards taking out her own bad guys. The chase of Dexter and the ending are mind blowing. Find out who dies, because those are the folks that didn’t get their contracts renewed for season 3.
