Is it me, or has “Lost” become “Supernatural”? Or has “Supernatural” become more like “Lost” over the years?

I am seeing a lot of parallels between the shows, especially after Tuesday’s season premiere of the ABC drama (and before you read on, this list assumes that you have seen the “Lost” season premiere as well as the current season of the CW’s “Supernatural”).

Some spooky parallels (and add more in comments if you think of any):

  • SPNbrothers After a white flash, Sam an Dean Winchesters found they’d been mysteriously removed from a dangerous appearance by Satan.
  • After a white flash, the “Lost” characters found they’d been thrown from a dangerous situation with bomb — and into a new time frame.
  • Rings of ash scattered in a circle around a person or structure can protect it from monsters.
  • Rings of salt scattered in a circle around a person or structure can protect it from monsters.
  • Courtesy of commenter Rose: Titus Welliver plays a powerful character on “Lost.”
  • Titus Welliver plays one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on “Supernatural.”
  • Courtesy of commenter Rose: Fredrick Lehne played an intense federal Marshal on “Lost.”
  • Fredrick Lehne played the intense Yellow Eyed Demon on “Supernatural.”
  • Entities on the island can assume different human forms or occupy various “meatsuits.”
  • Demons, angels and fallen angels on “Supernatural” can assume different human forms or occupy various “meatsuits.”
  • “Lost” is now playing with “what if” scenarios of what might have happened had the crash not occurred.
  • Lostalpert “Supernatural” has frequently played with “what if” scenarios that revolve around what might have happened had the Winchesters or their family members not become hunters.
  • The religious metaphors and themes are coming thick and fast, as the Winchesters are pawns in a game played by Heaven and Hell.
  • The religious metaphors and themes are coming thick and fast, as the “Lost” characters become pawns (and players) in a game played by dueling powers (light and dark).
  • Minions of powerful forces and factions battle each other for control of the fate of the people on the island.
  • Minions of powerful forces and factions battle each other for control of the fate of the entire world on “Supernatural.”
  • The “Lost” characters sometimes stumble on haunted cabins and spooky Temples.
  • The Winchesters frequently stumble on haunted cabins and spooky churches. And spooky hospitals. And spooky houses… and well. A lot of haunted stuff.
  • SPN3CasDean Mark Pellegrino plays a powerful “Lost” character named Jacob — who appears to be inhabiting a human body (and may have upgraded into Sayid’s body?).
  • Mark Pellegrino plays a powerful “Supernatural” character named Lucifer — who appears to be inhabiting a human body (and wants to upgrade to a Winchester body).
  • The “Lost” characters have come to know an ageless, powerful man named Richard Alpert — who is clearly connected to the powerful entities (or gods) on the island.
  • The Winchesters have come to know an ageless, powerful man named Castiel — who, as an angel, is clearly connected to the game between Heaven and Hell.
  • Sawyer is good-hearted but can seem cynical and he likes to make wisecracks.
  • Sawyercage Dean Winchester is good-hearted but can seem cynical and he likes to make wisecracks.
  • Jack is a well-intentioned, sometimes stubborn man.
  • Sam Winchester is a well-intentioned, sometimes stubborn man.
  • The characters on “Lost” have lots of daddy issues.
  • The Winchesters have lots and lots of daddy issues.
  • The “Lost” characters often encounter mystical symbols and a mysterious sequence of numbers, which may be connected to powerful forces.
  • The Winchesters often encounter mystical symbols and use mysterious incantations to summon powerful forces.

Three notes: This is all in good fun — I dig both shows.

And hey, “Lost” and “Supernatural” fans: I’m auctioning cool TV swag for charity. Bid on many “Lost” and “Supernatural” items here! “Lost” fans can get a cool Dharma item for donating here!

Finally, my take on the Season 6 premiere of “Lost” and the rest of my island coverage is here. My weekly “Supernatural” posts are here.
