Season 7s American Idol, David Cook, announced on his official website today that “The Time of My Life” single won ‘Song of the Year’ at the 2009 Nashville Music Awards held October 7th, 2009. The song won the American Idol Songwriter Contest held on our site from thousands of entrants, and David performed it live at the Season 7 finale after being crowned the winner. Billboard has declared it “…one of the longest-running chart-toppers by a solo male artist in AC history.” The hit single, written by Regie Hamm, has joined the ranks of select Nashville-penned songs that have achieved remarkable success at the #1 spot, including Elvis’ “Heartbreak Hotel” in 1956. The song hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot AC chart 15 times, passing the 14 week mark that Whitney Houston hit with Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” in 1993.
After his run on American Idol, David released his self-titled debut CD in November 2008. The album included The Time of My Life, and both the song and the album were certified Platinum.
